Krona well on top

By John Scanlon

Making her handicap debut, Krona ran out the easy winner of a mile and a half handicap at Kempton on February 15.

Kirsten Rausing’s homebred Sea The Moon filly had three runs as a juvenile last autumn, all over a mile. Stepping up in trip, Krona faced six rivals at Kempton, including stablemate A Little Respect, the mount of Jo Mason.

Making her seasonal debut in the closing event on the Kempton card, and smartly away from the stalls under Jason Hart, Krona led early on but was soon overtaken by the very keen Me and Mrs Jones. As that rival began to weaken turning for home, Krona surged into the lead and was soon well clear of her field. Despite being eased by Jason Hart in the closing stages, the filly scored by five lengths from Sexy Rexy, with A Little Respect, who had been carried wide into the straight, finishing a distant third.

This was a pleasing effort from a filly who is bred to stay well. Mark trained her dam, the Exchange Rate mare, Kwanza, to win for Miss Rausing over a mile and a quarter at Pontefract in 2019.
