Two from three for Terrier

By John Scanlon

Yorkshire Terrier landed his second win from three starts when cruising to success in a restricted novice event at Southwell on May 8.

The son of Bow Creek, owned by Deborah Finkler, Andrew Herd and Peter Holloway, was an impressive winner at Southwell on debut in early April. He then showed scorching early pace in a decent novice race at Newmarket on April 18, racing under a penalty and conceding weight all round, before weakening in the closing stages there.

Sent back to Southwell on May 8, Yorkshire Terrier faced six rivals over five furlongs and once again required to concede weight to all of his rivals. Jack Mitchell took the ride.

Again, the Bow Creek colt was swiftly away and set out to make all the running. Firmly in control as the field entered the final furlong, Yorkshire Terrier pulled further clear in the closing stages to score by four lengths from Melisende, with Kaolinite a neck away in third.

Homebred by Friar Ings Stud, Yorkshire Terrier looks to be improving and connections will be hoping he can now achieve a first win on turf.
