2021: First three runners are winners!

By John Scanlon

Johnston Racing made a sensational start to the year when its first three runners of 2021 all won on January 2.
First into action was the appropriately named Coupe de Champagne, owned by Kingsley Park 17 partnership. The Gleneagles filly made all the running to land the 10 furlong handicap for three-year-olds at Lingfield.
Her success was followed by another pillar-to-post win, with Kingsley Park 18’s Bravado taking the honours in the six furlong handicap there to complete a double for Joe Fanning. The Showcasing colt is now unbeaten in all three of his starts.
The New Year treble was completed at Wolverhampton, where Ollie Stammers partnered Markus Graff’s Lord of the Alps to success in the mile and a half apprentice handicap. The four-year-old Lord of England gelding led from the start before kicking off the home bend to seal the win, completing a fantastic start to the year by the yard.
